Learn More About Rhinoplasty (Cosmetic Nasal Surgery)

Rhinoplasty helps create a nose that you find more attractive and suited for your face, and can also be preformed to reconstruct nasal passageways to improve breathing. The goal is to produce a natural looking nose that suits you and your other facial features. Rhinoplasty can change the shape, size and general appearance of your nose, and is performed on both women and men.

The Procedure

Every nose is different, and what is appealing to one person may not be to the next. For that reason it is important to try to identify what bothers you about your nose and what you would like changed. It is sometimes useful to bring pictures of noses that you find cosmetically pleasing to your visit with Dr. Oxley. At that time Dr. Oxley will discuss the best options for you. The surgery is performed as a day-care surgery which means an overnight hospital stay is not required.

Recovery & What to Expect

Swelling or bruising after surgery can make it difficult to breathe through your nose for a few days. Bruising can last 1 to 2 weeks so people often take this time off from work or school. A special dressing is placed on the nose after surgery to help maintain the new shape and reduce swelling. This usually comes off after 5 to 7 days. Heavy lifting should be avoided for a few weeks, so parents of young children may want extra help during this time.
