Hand Surgery

Most hand surgery in Canada is performed by plastic surgeons. Surgery can help restore function and reduce pain. Common procedures include carpal tunnel release and repair of tendon injuries. Hand fractures, arthritis, and unwanted lumps and growths are also commonly treated by plastic surgeons.

There are too many procedures to discuss them all here. When appropriate, your family doctor or specialist will refer you to a plastic surgeon for their advice and help.

Cancer Surgery

Complex reconstruction, whether for cancer or other causes, is the origin of plastic surgery. Breast and skin cancer make up the majority of this work and Dr. Oxley spends much of his time seeing these cancer patients. Over the past decade, Dr. Oxley has become one of the country’s busiest melanoma surgeons and sees patients from all over BC for definitive melanoma surgery, including sentinal lymph node biopsies.

When appropriate, your family doctor or specialist will refer you to a plastic surgeon for their advice and help.

In addition, Dr. Oxley is a member of the Breast Health team at the Jim Pattison Out Patient and Surgery Centre. This team performs more immediate breast reconstruction with alloplastic techniques than any other centre in Canada. Dr. Oxley has also helped organize the Fraser Valley Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day and has appeared on Global Television to discuss Breast Reconstruction advances.

Trauma Reconstruction

Trauma patients range from simple lacerations to complex facial injuries and burns. Plastic surgeons often help other surgeons, such as Orthopedic Surgeons, to treat patients with devastating injuries elsewhere on the body. When appropriate, your family doctor or specialist will refer you to a plastic surgeon for their advice and help
